first_imgJack Patton.Letterkenny Golf News:JACK IS THE LAD AT BARNHILL!Having cleared their driveways of snow and ice following the frosty weather of late, the “die-hards” could not wait to get swinging again at Barnhill over the weekend. With the sunshine beckoning through the low temperatures and the greens in as good a shape as any, it was the irrepressible Hugh Tinney [18] who managed his way around the course with due diligence that awarded him with birdies at 5th & 13th, the two hardest par 3’s on the course, helping him take the turn with 19pts and return an overall winning score of level par 36pts. Following in “dead heat” with Hugh was cat 2 member Brian Cullen [12] also on 36pts but losing out due to a double bogey at 17th. JACK’S DAY!Sunday 25th confined competition will be one long remembered by one of our most exciting junior prospects, Jack Patton. At the relative young age of sixteen and playing of a 4 handicap, Jack returned a fantastic two under par gross 70! Considering the miserable conditions endured, with wind and rain blowing to all points of the compass, this was indeed a truly magnificent round of golf. With birdies at 7th, 14th, 16th & 18th wiping out unfortunate bogeys at 6th & 12th, Jack showed his potential for reaching scratch handicap very soon, and posted his intent to become Letterkenny’s leading golfer for many a year. With “nines” of 20pts and 22pts, Jack’s registered score of 42pts in such inclement conditions will be hard to surpass in 2015. Second placed Tim O’ Farrell [18] also deserves a mention due to his 38pt finish on the day, and showing his steely resolve by recording a birdie par five final hole. With the “back-to-golf” syndrome kicking in again, competitors are reminded that the Wednesday & Saturday Opens and Sunday confined competitions have returned to normal with members entry fee €7. “Mats” are still in operation until St. Patrick’s Day at the earliest.CAPTAINS’ DRIVE-IN::Club Captain Gerard Duffy, Lady Captain Margo Birmingham and club President Anne Condon are pleased to announce the annual DRIVE-IN will take place on Sunday 22nd February 2015!
