But his next match will be anything but stress-free, after he moved into the quarterfinals to set up a match against pro women’s player, Nicolette Fernandes, who also made it into the quarterfinals of the Digicel National Seniors Squash Championships at the courts of the Georgetown Club.The two were set to match racquets last night, when the competition continued. Arjoon had come into the competition anticipating a match against the 34-year-old.“I feel good; it’s going to be a good tournament. A lot of good players for good competition, and I’m really happy to be here, to give it 100%,” Arjoon noted at the beginning of the competition.The match against Antczak was Arjoon’s first after a bye in the first round. He trounced Antczak 11-1, 11-2, 11-2.Fernandes, who is seeded 5/8 in the men’s draw, played Nicholas Narain, for her spot in the men’s quarterfinals. Fernandes had a close first game against Nicholas Narain winning it 12-10 but then easily won the next two games 11-2, 11-1.But Fernandes was also faced with her own challenge last night, with back-to-back matches.Alex ArjoonFernandes, who is also in the women’s open, was scheduled to start her bid in this category with a quarterfinals match against Makeda Harding at 18:30hrs.Her match against Arjoon was at 19:00hrs.In other men’s open matches on Wednesday night, Nyron Joseph lost concentration and dropped the second game 4-11 after winning the first game 11-0 in his match against Peter Michael De Groot. He then restored order winning the next two games 11-4, 11-4.Two five/eight seeds however lost to lower-seeded players. Jean Claude Jeffrey beat 5/8 Ben Mekdeci in three close games 12-10, 11-8, 11-7 while Shomari Wiltshire beat 5/8 Regan Pollard in five competitive games 10-12, 11-5, 9-11, 11-2, 11-4.No. 2 seed Richard Chin proved too good for Adam Alves winning 11-6, 11-4, 11-2. Three/four seeds Kristian Jeffrey and Jason Ray Khalil also had easy wins. Kristian Jeffrey thrashed Javid Rahaman 11-2, 11-1, 11-3 while Jason Ray Khalil took care of Alex Cheeks 11-4, 11-4, 11-4.As the matches in the women’s open got started on Wednesday night, Harding, who had to fight hard for her quarter finals spot, took on Abosaide Cadogan, winning 11-4, 13-11, 7-11, 11-3.Victoria Arjoon defeated Kirsten Gomes 11-5, 11-2, 11-5, while in the other women’s match Sarah Lewis bettered Madison Fernandes 13-11, 11-9, 11-9.In the men’s veterans 35-49 Allan Downes beat Medhi Ramdhani in four games 8-11, 11-6, 11-9, 11-5. Joe Mekdeci then crushed Robin Low 11-3, 11-1, 11-5.In the men’s veterans Over-50 Joe Mekdeci overcame Steven Persaud 11-3, 11-6, 11-4.last_img
