Eighth football: Ark City 54 Wellington 0. ———WMS girls tennis: The Wellington Middle School Girls Tennis Team traveled to Goddard Eisenhower Thursday.  “It was a close battle which involved a couple of tie-breakers, but the Lady Knights just came up a little short against their opponent,” said Terry Driskell, WMS girls tennis coach. Singles winners were:  Rylee Rusk, Calli Hatfield, Baylee Newberry and winning doubles matches were Rusk and Hatfield.———Freshman volleyball: The Wellington freshman volleyball team had a successful night winning all three games.  The scores were: WHS vs. Collegiate 25-11, 25,5 WHS vs. Mulvane 25-16, 25-16 WHS vs. El Dorado 19-25, 25-22, 15-12 “I’m happy to say that I see the team starting to come together,” said Deb Beougher, Wellington volleyball coach. “Our passing and serving was on key last night.  “Now we need to focus on getting our spiking/hits consistent.” Beougher said the approach, footwork, and timing are still an issue.  “Since we are running a simple offense, I find that our middle and outside are having spacing problems and will start to address that issue,” she said. “We also need to get more aggressive with our arm swing so it makes it more difficult on the defense to pick up the hit.”  The girls travel to Garden Plain this weekend for their first tournament.  “The more touches we get on the ball; the better experience we gain,” Beougher said. ———High school cross country: Wellington came home with two first-place team placings, with two individual runners and 11 medals. Wellington didn’t have enough runners in the other races to make up a team for scoring.
