Karachi Kings and Quetta Gladiators started their 2019 Pakistan Super League campaigns on high by winning their respective matches on Friday. While Karachi Kings beat Multan Sultans by 7 runs, Quetta Gladiators registered a 6-wicket victory over Peshawar Zalmi. Both the matches were played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai.In the first match of the day, Karachi Kings defended 183 by restricting Multan Sultans to 176 for 9 thanks to Mohammad Amir’s four-wicket haul.Opting to bat first, Karachi Kings rode on half-centuries by their openers Liam Livingstone (82) and Babar Azam (77) to post a 183 for 6. The duo was involved in a 157-run stand for the first wicket. However, none of the other batsmen were able to reach the double digits.For Multan Sultans, Chris Green was the pick of bowlers finishing with 3 for 32.In the second match of the day between Quetta Gladiators overcame a poor start to beat Peshawar Zalmi by 6 wickets.Asked to bat first, Peshawar Zalmi posted 155 for 4. Opener Kamran Akmal hit 49 off 36 balls while Misbah-ul-Haq scored a fiery 49 not out off 32 balls to help Peshawar put up a fighting total on the board.In reply, Quetta Gladiators’ chase was rocked early when they lost Ahmed Shehzad off the first ball of the innings.However, Shane Watson and Rilee Rossouw did try to revive Quetta with a few boundaries but their partnership was broken in the fourth over by Umaid Asif.Umar Akmal came out all guns blazing and smashed an unbeaten 75 off only 50 deliveries to take Quetta Gladiators home with two balls to spare.
