4 December 2007In a bid to encourage and help South African men take action to end violence against women, the Sonke Gender Justice Network continues to roll out its One Man Can campaign across the country. The campaign, a partnership between Sonke and a number of other local, national and international organisations, provides men and boys with resources to act on their concerns about domestic and sexual violence.Launched in 2006 in conjunction with the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children campaign, the One Man Can action toolkit includes a resource directory, workshop materials and information on how to develop healthy relationships and support victims of violence.More info, toolkit: One Man CanSonke co-director Bafana Khumalo said that men should play a meaningful role in the quest for gender equality. “As men we need to take a stand on these issues and make a difference.”Sonke programme co-ordinator Nyanda ka-Khanyile said the organisation’s research over the last year showed that many men and boys were concerned about the widespread domestic and sexual violence in the country and wanted it to stop.“As one man you can demand justice, love passionately, stop Aids, and end violence,” said ka-Khanyile.“When a woman is abused and it goes unchallenged, that means all women are vulnerable to abuse too, my mother and sister and yours, and we as men and boys have to stand up and stop the abuse perpetrated by other men.”The toolkit includes information stickers on the campaign, music with anti-abuse messages, slogan t-shirts, video clips, posters and fact sheets that those involved in the campaign can use and distribute. It also provides information and strategies on how men can support a survivor of abuse, use the law to demand justice, educate children early and often, challenge other men to take action, make schools safer for girls and boys, raise awareness in places of worship, and build a human rights culture. The One Man Can action toolkit was developed by the Sonke Gender Justice Network with support from the Western Cape provincial government, Unicef, the South African Development Fund, the Ford Foundation and the International Organisation on Migration.Source: BuaNews

Two thing i did not like is the hair is way too thin for me as brazilian hair usually has more volume and a bit of a bounce. There is also something else mixed inside as there are brown/grey bits. The hair is fantastic for the price. The hair is fantastic for the price. It soft and light and when i use my curlers with a heat protector it doesn’t burn. The coastal community of Small Point shuts down its water supply in winter, which forced Laura Sewall to find an alternative source of water. A well was one option, but the high mineral content in local groundwater would have required treatment. More than that, Laura did not want to interfere with the area’s delicate hydrological balance.Factoring in supply and demandIn designing the system for Laura’s house, builder Christopher Hahn looked at the average rainfall for coastal Maine (about 4 inches per month) and calculated how much the home’s standing-seam metal roof could reliably collect. He used a formula that assumed a half-gallon of water would be collected for each inch of rainfall on each square foot of the home’s footprint. With a roof area of about 2200 square feet, the system would collect 4400 gallons in an average month. The four tanks hold almost twice that amount. With Laura’s water conserving fixtures and appliances, the system exceeds her needs during the months when there’s no other source of water. — This blog is an excerpt of the Fine Homebuilding article Ebb and Flow, by architect Stephen Sullivan. The steering committee of farmers’ leaders on Sunday rejected the Maharashtra government’s ₹34,022-crore loan waiver scheme, claiming there should be no upper limit. The committee met at the office of Communist Party of India (M) here and demanded the entire outstanding loan be waived. Dr. Ajit Navale, member of the committee, said, “The scheme has an upper limit of ₹1.5 lakh. So if a farmer has an outstanding loan above it, he would not benefit from it. It is not in line with our demand of blanket loan waiver.” A meeting will be held in Nashik on July 9 and the committee will launch a Sangharsh Yatra (protest campaign) against the government, which will end on July 23. Dr. Navale said, “We will hold a State-wide agitation on July 26 as our demands have not been addressed by the government.”Meanwhile, National Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar said on Sunday that the farm loan waiver announced by the Devendra Fadnavis-led Bharatiya Janata Party government was not wholly satisfactory. However, Mr. Pawar said his party would support the Maharashtra government and play a constructive role in providing relief to debt-ridden farmers. The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Krishi Sanman Yojana will write off debt up to ₹1.5 lakh per farmer (from the previous ceiling of ₹1 lakh). The scheme is expected to benefit 89 lakh farmers: 40 lakh will become debt-free; the remaining 49 lakh will be provided relief. Mr. Pawar said, “This is the government’s first step towards alleviating debt-ridden farmers. It is too soon for us [the NCP] to say whether it is effective or not… but the ground reality is that a section of farmer leaders are already dissatisfied with the government’s proposals.”The NCP chief said that the government had written off-debts up to ₹1.5 lakh for the period between April 1, 2012 and June 2016. “It ought to have done so till June 2017,” Mr. Pawar said.He said that the party’s second and long-term demand would be to seek the implementation of the recommendations of the M.S. Swaminathan Committee to make agriculture viable and stable. Mr. Pawar said, “It is high time the Centre seriously considers implementing it. The government was aware that there would be a record production of tur dal this year, yet it did not lift the ban on the export of pulses.”Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray during his tour in Nashik district said the loan waiver put forward by its coalition ally was “unsatisfactory”. He said, “The farm loan waiver is historic, but it is not satisfactory. We will continue to demand the implementation of the Swaminathan committee’s recommendations, including fair prices for onion farmers and waiving debts till June 2017.”
