Kolkata: Eastern Railway has converted a swampy land into a well-arranged, beautiful garden with a waterbody to support a variety of flora and fauna.The garden has come up at Barasat in North 24-Parganas. The area was full of shrubs and had become a wasteland. People used to throw garbage there, making the whole area look like a trenching ground. It has been turned into a green and serene patch in Barasat area amidst the urban jungle. As a step ahead towards ecological preservation, the ER has developed the swampy land area into a well-arranged garden with a clean water tank. The Sealdah division of Eastern Railway took up the development work. The area of the land is around 1 hectare. The eco-garden has more than 5,400 trees. The waterbody has been cleaned and pathways have been constructed surrounding it. The pathways are being used by joggers and morning and evening walkers.
